Getting Started
There are a few network marketing opportunities that are just scams. There are far more that may be well-intentioned, but have a poor track record, for any number of reasons.


So how do you separate the good from the not so good or bad?


Here are a few questions you can ask to help you pick the right network marketing opportunity.


Has the company been around for at least 5 years?

Is the company well capitalized?

Does the company offer products or services that are unique?

Is there a genuine need for the product or service?

Is the product or service trendy yet will provide a service or product that will provide long term income possibilities?

Can you start making money from Day 1?

Does the marketing system take full advantage of technology?

Is the person who is introducing you to the opportunity committed to YOUR success?

Is there a way to build your business part-time without losing your full time income?

Will you have FUN?

Does the company provide online access to marketing materials, videos, newsletters etc?

Do you have access to your ‘back office’ 24/7? In other words can you see you organisation and commissions at a glance?

Does the company pay commissions monthly and in a simple way, say to your bank account or PayPal Account?

Does the Compensation Plan require you to have a Phd in Rocket Science to understand it? If so…forget it

Now that we have addressed all those issues it really is a minefield out there of Network Marketing Companies that will 'promise you the World and deliver an Atlas'. My apologies for my sarcasm or skeptiscism but I have seen too many people get involved in this business and work their 'butts' off for very little financial return, including myself.

Now I won't profess to be an expert, but years of experience has taught me enough to be able to spot a really good opportunity.

There is no doubt that the biggest thing to happen in the 'cyber world' in the last , say five years is Social Networking., ie the likes of Facebook, MySpace and Twitter , just to name a few. Not that long ago people were getting fired for using Facebook in their office.

Now companies are using these Social Networks as a Marketing and Communications Tool...

Wow...things have really come full circle....getting paid to socialise sounds like something most people would not mind!

The Global Economic situation has really pushed a lot people against the wall. Many people are now looking for part time jobs that they physically have to go to, say like waiting in a restaurant or bar, maybe packing supermarket shelves at nights or on weekends or even doing temp office work and admin duties in their spare time. The problem with these is, they take up a lot of time and transport costs, for not very good returns. And if you live in the Middle East, having a part time job outside the company you are ‘sponsored by’ is actually illegal and can wind you up in some pretty deep ‘doo-doo’.

So...What’s the alternative?

The obvious choice is online income. Ok now that we have got that out of our system...I guess the burning question is:

 “Where the heck do I start?”

The answer to this is really daunting as there are so many alternatives out there and quite frankly most of them are scams. They promise unbelievable revenue streams for a minimal investment of time and money. They are almost promoting “Get Rich Quick Schemes” and after 52 years of living and working experience on this planet, I have not personally met anyone who has gotten rich quick from one of these schemes. I have however met a lot of people who have become wealthy by getting involved in reputable ventures and put in some quality time an effort and of course some investment.

Well, I am going to be a bit controversial here and suggest “Network Marketing” as the answer or at least a reasonable place to start.

Why Network Marketing?

The first and I suppose most crucial reason is, that it really is, your own business!

Some of you may have heard of Robert Kiyosaki...love him or hate him,he does make a lot of sense in a lot of cases. Here is Robert’s attitude to network marketing:

“The reason I recommend network marketing is because network marketing is the business of the future. Back in the late 1990's, it was often difficult to talk to people about network marketing when the economy was so strong. It was hard to talk to people about network marketing when their mutual funds were going up by 20% per year. But those days are over. If you ever wanted to get ahead of the curve, now is the time to open your mind and look at this business of the future. Now is the time to talk to people when they too are looking for new answers and new ways to find true long term financial security.

A network marketing business is one of the asset classes. It is a business. If you work hard and build the business, that business will give you the excess cash to acquire the real estate and stocks that will give you true long term financial security...security you can pass on to your loved ones. You can't do that with your job, no matter how secure it is”

In my next posting I would like to talk about the ‘do’s’ and ‘don’t’s’ of Network Marketing and especially how to pick a company where you can work ‘smart not hard’ and at the same time not lose all your relatives and friends and be avoided by everyone you come into contact with, which is generally what happens with most people when they get involved in Network Marketing. They almost become 'lepers' or outcasts of society.
